Our goal is to broaden our community beyond a society by encouraging an expanded worldview and unapologetically expressing viewpoints whilst being socially conscious to ensure improved connection, respect and relatability to others.
Debating is a catalyst for the development of transferable skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, resilience, collaboration and coherent argument construction. It can promote political and social awareness of current affairs as well as function as a preparation for future interviews or work-related events.
We will hold fortnightly practice sessions during term-time which are open to all SOAS students, regardless of previous debating experience. We will also organise debate competitions, internal and external speaker events, collaborate with numerous societies to maximise greater accomplishment.
