SOCAR R&D was established in 2019 with a view to providing SOCAR Turkey and group companies with R&D services. Our purpose is to create innovative, sustainable, environment-friendly and market-oriented products, processes and digital technologies. We aim to improve and develop production processes for all stakeholders in the value chain in line with SOCAR Turkey’s vision to create an ‘integrated energy business that adds value to all stakeholders in an economically and socially responsible way’.
Committed to using its 51 years of R&D experience to help all stakeholders achieve their respective visions, SOCAR Turkey R&D was licensed on June 13th, 2020 by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, Republic of Turkey.
Situated on the Aliağa Refinery, our centre renders services at its 6 labs, pilot facilities and offices built on an area of 1,200 m2 with more than 30 researchers with postgraduate and doctorate degrees.
SOCAR Turkey R&D fields of expertise include catalyst research, green chemistry, sustainable, clean and efficient energy, value-added products, energy transition, digitalization and environmental solutions. Adoption of an open innovation model allows us to engage in strong industry-academia collaborations and we work with more than 30 national and international universities.
SOCAR Turkey R&D is committed to the Horizon 2020 European Green Deal Call which strives to ensure the European Union's transition to a carbon-free economy by 2050.
SOCAR Turkey R&D has 5 projects in total that are funded by the European Union. While the CARMOF, CO2 Focus and LOUISE projects fall within the scope of Horizon 2020 and aim to develop carbon capture, storage and use technologies (CCSU), the NEFERTITI project aims to produce valuable chemicals from concentrated solar energy. In addition, the work of Circular TwAIn, the first project of SOCAR Turkey R&D in the digital field and funded by Horizon Europe, started in July 2022.
