Society for Institutional Analysis - sofia

Based on an interdisciplinary research approach, the Society for Institutional Analysis (short: sofia) investigates regulatory options for action at regional, national or European level. The research approach is also suitable for analyzing design options to improve the institutional framework in private and public organizations. The sofia team is interdisciplinary: legal scholars and economists work together with engineers as well as social and natural scientists. The methodological framework is provided by the model of homo oeconomicus institutionalis; it takes into account both the formal (e.g. laws and contracts) and informal (e.g. rules of fairness) institutional context of individual behavior. The majority of sofia's research projects deal with the institutional framework for "sustainable development", with the question of appropriate approaches to "Responsive Regulation" usually forming the core of the investigation.
