The name came originally in Arabic:
"صفّة قند"
It comes from two forgotten Arabic words:
"صفّة"
or Suffa which is the root of the English word "Sofa" as an implication of originality and comfort.
"قند"
is the ancient word for sugar in Arabic language as a metaphor of using the basic ingredients in making the cake.
