The SOI Asia community was established in 1996 when AI3 (Asian Internet Interconnection Initiatives/read: ei-triple-ai) started connecting universities in Asia to the Internet and launching collaborative research on network technologies. Over time, we expanded our initiatives to promote educational activities through the network. Today, our focus is on contributing to the development of a more resilient society in the Asia Pacific by working more closely with partner institutions through research and education.
With Keio University (Japan) as the hub, SOI Asia comprises 29 partner institutions as of 2025, including universities, research institutes, international organizations in 13 economies across the Asia Pacific.
SOI Asia has been supported by the APNIC Foundation since 2021.
