We store solar energy in form of heat using oil and rock pebbles. The electrical energy generated by solar PVs is converted into thermal energy by heating a heat transfer fluid. During the charging of the heat storage, cooking can be done. When the system is switched off, the hot oil in the storage tank is reversed through the cooking unit, and cooking is carried out. Cooking tests have been successfully demonstrated even during periods with cloud cover and light rains. We plan to up-scale the system and deploy for field testing in selected schools.
