Sollys was established in 1928 by Ken Solly in Collingwood, Golden Bay, with the purchase of a 1928 Chevrolet truck. Ken started by servicing the small ships that came around the coast from Collingwood and delivered the goods that came off them. Ken then used this vehicle to establish a freight run from the western end of Golden Bay to Nelson. Today Sollys is run by Merv Solly, local legend and sustainable organic beef and sheep farmer. Sollys community has grown outside Golden Bay and now delivers across New Zealand with 130 trucks and 180 staff. Our values remain unchanged.
Merv’s passion besides trucking and contracting lies in agronomy. At age 60 he switched to the Albrecht system on his farms to balance his souls nutrients and ability to hold water and air. Today he boasts healthy plants and animals with increased yields, better health and he shares his success with others via Golden Bay Dolomite.
Merv looks forward to Sollys 100th anniversary in 2028 when he will be 80 and sharing in it with his partner of over 40 years Ann McNabb, his family and all his wonderful customers, because without you, we wouldn’t have a business at all.
