SOLVE Project

SOLVE focuses on joint actions for most common risks (forest fires and floods). It has three pillars: a) joint training of operational teams (1st responders), b) Provision of scientific support and knowledge to operational decision making and c) Capitalization and mainstreaming of results. Such approach is novel and fosters the cross border cooperation at a sustainable basis, following the 2020 guidelines of DG ECHO. Both top down and bottom up approaches are integrated in a model that can succesfully be adapted and adopted in many cross border areas, not only between Greece and Republic of North Macedonia, but also in other cross border areas in the Balkan Penisnula. SOLVE has a dual character approach: a) Working on most common risks, building on previous successful project results and b) joint actions not only at the levels of risk assessment, early warning and management procedures, but also at conducting large scale joint exercises, common training and immediate exploitation of results both at policies and operational levels. SOLVE exploits succesful results and lessons learnt from on going projects of the 1st call (such as J-CROSS and HELP, Ofidia2 in Greece - Italy) while it will seek synergies with other risk prevention and management cross border projects (from DG ECHO cross prevention and preparedness call 2020) and European training centers of excellence.
