Tα Παιδικά Χωριά SOS είμαστε μία διεθνής οργάνωση που ιδρύθηκε το 1949 στο Τιρόλο της Αυστρίας, από τον Herman Gmeiner.
Έχοντας βιώσει ο ίδιος τη φρίκη του πολέμου ως στρατιώτης στη Ρωσία, γνώρισε στη συνέχεια από κοντά την ταλαιπωρία και την απομόνωση των ορφανών και των άστεγων παιδιών, από τη θέση του κοινωνικού λειτουργού μετά το τέλος του Δευτέρου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου. Έτσι αποφάσισε να αφιερώσει τη ζωή του βοηθώντας αυτά τα παιδιά να μεγαλώσουν μέσα στο ασφαλές περιβάλλον μιας οικογένειας.
Με τη γενναιόδωρη στήριξη δωρητών, υποστηρικτών και φίλων, το όραμα του Herman Gmeiner να παρέχει ένα οικογενειακό περιβάλλον γεμάτο αγάπη για κάθε παιδί και να βοηθά τις οικογένειες να παραμένουν ενωμένες παρά τις όποιες δυσκολίες, όλο και μεγάλωνε.
Σήμερα, τα Παιδικά Χωριά SOS λειτουργούν σε 136 χώρες, βοηθώντας χιλιάδες παιδιά μέσα από προγράμματα εναλλακτικής φροντίδας και πρόληψης, σχολεία, Κέντρα Υγείας και άλλες υπηρεσίες προς τις τοπικές κοινωνίες.
Στην Ελλάδα ξεκινήσαμε το 1975 και πλέον λειτουργούμε 4 Παιδικά Χωριά SOS, 2 Στέγες Νέων, 2 Ξενώνες Βρεφών SOS, 10 Κέντρα Στήριξης Παιδιού και Οικογένειας και 6 Κέντρα Μαθησιακής και Παιδαγωγικής Υποστήριξης.
The first SOS Children’s Village was founded by Hermann Gmeiner in Tyrol, Austria, in 1949. As a child welfare worker, Gmeiner saw how children orphaned as a result of World War II suffered. He was committed to helping them by building loving families and supportive communities.
With the generous support of donors, child sponsors, partners and friends, Gmeiner's vision has grown steadily over six decades. Today, SOS Children's Villages is active in 136 countries and territories around the world, helping hundreds of thousands of children each year through alternative care, family strengthening, schools, health centres, and other community-based work.
In Greece we have been operating since 1975 and we currently operate 4 Villages, 2 Youth Houses, 2 SOS Babies Homes,10 Social Centers and 5 Learning-Education Centers
