Sound Embodied together with MUSIC CARE by Room 217™ present an exclusive wellness mini-retreat to enhance the mind, body and spirit in the middle of bustling city life. The event’s objective is to connect the soothing effects of mindful body movement, sound bath meditation, and glorious live instrumental music and to share ways to best incorporate these wellness experiences at home to improve participants’ everyday well-being. The mini-retreat is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, July 14 in the studios of the Toronto Botanical Garden. Registration is required as space is limited to ensure a peaceful retreat. MUSIC CARE by Room 217™ curriculum specialist, professional musician and educator, Dawn Ellis kicks off the event with a welcome message about the power of music to heal. This is followed by an accessible session of chair yoga and a performance by visiting international cello soloist Keely Mackey who joins us from New Mexico. Then sound meditation practitioner Kenneth Little will lead a sound bath with gong vibrations followed by music by Toronto’s eclectic flute and percussion ensemble Aphrodite Unbound. A labyrinth journey to live improvised music will conclude the immersive sessions and Dawn will send participants home with activities that will continue the wellness journey. Sound Embodied is a project by Toronto flutist Jaye Marsh who recently launched her album of new Canadian music for flute called ‘Flute in the Wild.’ She shares, “The idea came from the realization that all my favourite people were musicians and healers who wanted to bring order and peace to the world through their artistic practice. This first edition of Sound Embodied brings this energy together and we will grow this into a festival of sound and wellness!"
