About Communication and Media Studies Department

Students are trained to be multi-skilled communicators who tell compelling stories to diverse audiences across digital and traditional media platforms. Our goal is to prepare you for a lifetime of meaningful work through hands-on training and real-world experience. The field of Communication has experienced explosive change in the last 10 years. Our curriculum has been redesigned and is continually updated to best prepare our graduates for a career in the 21st century. Students can choose from four concentrations: Strategic Communication Sports Communication Television & Multimedia Journalism Corporate Training & Development The program is designed for students to begin concentration courses in their first year. All coursework is portfolio-driven, meaning that students will be generating media content to use in an online portfolio or demo reel. Building a portfolio of demonstrable skills is essential for securing internships and entry-level jobs in the student's area of interest. Concentrations were designed with the objective of educating students for meaningful work that takes advantage of their interests and talents. The program also includes five free elective courses (15 credits) that allow the student to elect a minor to enhance their credentials.
