Southern Tile Distributors began operations in 1953. In 2012, the company was acquired by Southern Diversified Distributors in Charleston, South Carolina which is the parent company of floor covering distributor, William M. Bird and third party logistics company, TranSouth Logistics. In January 2017, Southern Tile Distributors began operating under the William M. Bird name. The sister companies had been operating as a united company since the acquisition in 2012 and working under one company name further confirmed that relationship. William M. Bird provides the best floor covering products in the industry to flooring retailers in Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle.
