Southside Thermal Sciences (STS) is an engineering technology company formed by Imperial College’s Innovations Group Plc (the technology commercialisation company of Imperial College).
The STS core product is a dopant which is added to thermal barrier coatings and enables very accurate temperature monitoring up to 1400 deg Celsius, and an extension to the life of the coating. The developed system allows for real time monitoring of the temperature and the condition of the coating.
Further, STS envisages the commercialisation of a variety of other derivative technologies in cooperation with two leading gas turbine manufacturers and a utility company. This includes new monitoring technologies and a testing service for coatings.
