Spencer Group originally started out as the Citadel Group, co-founded by Mike Spencer in 1989. Previously, Mike served as an account manager at Epsilon Data Management – a national leader in database marketing and fundraising services. The business plan was simple: take the analytic, segmentation and personalization strategies that were so successful for national organizations and offer them to smaller organizations for a fraction of the cost. In 1992, we moved to the Washington, DC region. Three years later, Mike’s youngest sister Chrissy joined the firm upon graduation from Champlain College. Then, in 2003, our sister Sue came on board to open an office in Burlington, Vermont, to provide in-house direct mail production services. Mike, Chrissy and Sue soon realized that Vermont was best place to locate the company headquarters and to raise their respective families. Since moving to Vermont, we have continuously expanded and upgraded our services – and grown our staff – in order to ensure that our clients have the resources and tools necessary to realize the full potential of their fundraising and marketing programs. Today, we own and occupy a renovated historical property in Burlington’s Hill Section, a short walk from the University of Vermont, Church Street Marketplace and Lake Champlain waterfront. All of our analytic, copywriting, graphic design and production services are handled in-house by our team of experienced, hard-working and conscientious professionals.
