Spezie Boba is a beverage company that combines traditional Indonesian herbal drinks with a modern twist—healthy boba made from mocaf (Modified Cassava Flour), a fermented cassava flour that is low in calories, gluten-free, and has a low glycemic index. The name of “Spezie Boba” comes from Spezie, the Italian word for spices, and Boba, the tapioca pearls originating from Taiwan. Based on available data, the number of diabetes cases in Indonesia—from children to adults—continues to rise. At the same time, boba drinks are growing in popularity across all age groups, but their high sugar content raises health concerns, especially for those with diabetes or obesity. In response, we developed a healthier alternative by using mocaf-based boba and replacing milk and artificial sweeteners with traditional herbal drinks (jamu), known for their health benefits. This allows boba lovers to continue enjoying their favorite drink—now in a healthier, more functional form. Spezie Boba is a startup business built and managed by Ciputra University students majoring in International Business Management, as a practical obligation in the entrepreneurship course in a professional.
