About SPIC (Sustainable Polymer Innovation Cluster) Emmen

SPIC (Sustainable Polymer Innovation Cluster) Emmen is an innovation cluster initiated by companies active in the plastics industry located on the Emmtec Industry and Business Park in Emmen, the Netherlands. The SPIC partners are Senbis, Morssinkhof and Cumapol. The idea of the cluster is to align R&D equipment and investments and to offer these facilities to other companies and institutions via the SPIC platform. The R&D activities at SPIC are for a great part focusing on sustainable polymers. This concerns both the development of bioplastics as of recycled plastics. We believe that both recycling as utilizing biobased sources or biodegradability are important means to improve the ecological footprint that we as humanity are having on the planet. The selection of the type of sustainable polymer always depends on the application. The R&D facilities of SPIC are offered openly to the market and serve SME’s and multinationals throughout Europa. Nevertheless, we do try to align the new investments with the wishes and recommendation of local parties. This is an advantage because we can easily share facilities locally and agree on shared investment as every party can easily drive by.
