SPLENDID is a breakthrough initiative set to transform how dementia is detected and monitored — making the process faster, more accessible, and completely pain-free. Built on our patented concept in Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) technology, SPLENDID is a next-generation, portable biosensing platform that can rapidly identify dementia-related biomarkers — without the need for blood draws, brain scans, or complex lab setups. Using a novel lightpipe sensor design and non-lithographic fabrication methods, the platform is designed to be low-cost, zero-waste, and highly scalable. SPLENDID enables: - Early detection for timely intervention - Personalised and continuous monitoring - Rapid, non-invasive screening - Broader access to dementia care pathways — from clinics to community and remote settings This initiative is currently part of the ICURe Discover programme and is supported by the Research and Enterprise, Queen’s University Belfast, Proof of Principle grant, with a focus on exploring clinical applications and commercial potential, and also Smart Nano NI SPLENDID Team Scientific Lead: Robert M.
