St. Moritz Winter Pentathlon

The St. Moritz Winter Pentathlon was born from a love of winter sports, a passion for the beauty and natural resources of the Engadin, and a commitment to conservation. Even in the niche world of amateur sporting events, this one stands out, by blending heritage — several sports were invented or popularized in St. Moritz — innovation, luxury, and environmental sustainability. The Winter Pentathlon includes five disciplines: ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing, giant slalom, speed skating and monobob or curling. The disciplines – all either current or former Olympic sports – have been chosen to test participants’ athleticism and endurance across a range of different sports, and expose athletes to novel activities, many of which are integral to winter life in St Moritz. 90% of participants have never tried every single event; and they spend time on their own preparing and training, showcasing a true "Day Zero" mentality. Athletes began at the Cresta Club House (home of the infamous Cresta Run), and ski mountaineer a 700m ascent to Corviglia, up the piste used for the 1948 Winter Olympics. From there, competitors ski to Muntanella for the giant slalom, set by the same team that prepares events for tFIS Ski World Cup. Next, they transitioned to the frozen lake of St. Moritz for a head-to-head speedskating circuit, followed by a ~8km cross-country skiing course. Finally, participants headed to the Olympia Bob Run for a monobob race down the world's only all-natural bob run, from St. Moritz to Celerina. This year, participants will be able to opt in to curling instead. The St. Moritz Winter Pentathlon is open to anyone with a sense of adventure, a love of winter sports, and an interest in trying new things, with participants ranging in age from 18 to 70+ with mixed levels of skill and experience in the activities.
