Stabilization Central Credit Union is a provincially regulated cooperative financial institution wholly owned by British Columbia’s credit unions. Our mission is to ensure their stability and resilience.
Guided by a member-centric governance model, the Directors on our Board are largely elected from these credit unions and represent all regions of BC. This structure keeps the collective interests of the system at the forefront and informs our strategy. Our operations are built around three key business lines: Stabilization Activities, the Master Bond Program, and Elective Services.
We offer self-insurance as well as comprehensive remediation and advisory support tailored to meet the diverse needs of credit unions, whatever their size. Stabilization Central is critical in the early mitigation of issues that may threaten any credit union’s viability. By managing the Stabilization Fund, we provide essential financial resources and intervene to assist credit unions facing significant challenges.
We also specialize in developing and implementing resources, including toolkits, as well as engaging subject-matter experts to help credit unions navigate regulatory challenges effectively. Additionally, we provide strategic support, including merger facilitation, and bring member credit unions together to address system-wide challenges.
By acting as a guardian of the BC credit union system, Stabilization Central pursues its mandate to foster a resilient, collaborative, and viable financial ecosystem that benefits credit unions and the broader community alike.
