Stance Studio

Stance Studio is a design studio led by Tasmanian born, Copenhagen based architect Sanderson Bell. Practicing across the fields of Furniture and Architecture, the studio draws on Sanderson’s experience working in leading sustainable architecture practices, such as Zen Architects in Melbourne and Einrum Arkitekter in Copenhagen to implement sustainable design principles across all scales. Hailing from Tasmania, Sanderson moved to Melbourne to complete his Masters in Architecture. He worked within the School of Fine Art in parallel to architectural studies, where an interest in furniture and object design emerged. Explorations in sculpture with materials such as bronze and glass led to more functional furniture pieces. This passion continued alongside his architectural career until today. While developing a specialisation in sustainable residential architecture, his craft was being honed via experiments in furniture. Both scales of design continue to feed into each other throughout the work of Stance Studio. Using reclaimed / recycled materials and thoughtful production techniques ensures minimal impact on the environment and the ability to provide people with an affordable way to bring design to their lives. Accessibility and considered details are core to all Stance Studio work. At the heart of the Stance Studio mission is that spaces matter - almost as much as the things we do in them. The way we create them and what we fill them with have profound effects on our experiences. When you walk into a room, how does it make you feel? What does it make you want to do? Or think? Most people don't realise how much the spaces around them affect them. The decisions we make around the spaces we spend our lives in are crucial. Sanderson, and Stance Studio, moved to Copenhagen at the start of 2019 to further pursue this passion for sustainable design, in a city renowned as a global leader in the field.
