STAR Bergen

The Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy Research Group (STAR) focuses primarily on knee conditions and strives to contribute to both local and national professional development with a patient-centered approach. Haraldsplass Diakonale Hospital has long been one of Norway’s leading centers for advanced knee surgery, including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. STAR operates in a clinically integrated research environment, where the gap between clinical challenges and research questions is minimal. The group has a strong interdisciplinary foundation, with expertise spanning Orthopedics, Physiotherapy, and Radiology. Research from past and ongoing projects has led to clinical improvements, including advancements in surgical techniques, enhanced patient safety measures to reduce reoperation rates, and refined protocols for radiological examinations. Work originating from STAR has received national awards in recent years and has been repeatedly funded by the Western Norway Regional Health Authority. The group includes multiple PhD candidates and leads independent projects in collaboration with national and international partners.
