State’s first top 5 chart success was “I Can Do It”, recorded by The Rubettes and written by Wayne Bickerton and Tony Waddington. Following on from “Sugar Baby Love”, which had been No. 1 in the British and European charts, State Records enjoyed the hits penned by Bickerton/Waddington. They went on to have eight chart records with The Rubettes. In addition, the State label had chart success with Mac & Katie Kissoon, Rockotto, Delegation, Gary Benson and many others. In the late 70’s, State Records built a state of the art recording studio in Marble Arch and went on to form successful publishing companies with “Odyssey – State Music”.
