Static Vision

Static Vision is an independent film screening, festival, and events collective with a proven track record of delivering diverse, high-concept national film projects on lean budgets. Our mission is to showcase new films from undiscovered and underscreened filmmakers worldwide, while also reviving beloved cult cinema and introducing it to new audiences, often in unconventional screening spaces. Operating with minimal external funding, Static Vision produces websites, trailers, and other marketing materials in-house, helping to reduce overhead costs and maintain a clear vision. Since 2020, Static Vision has hosted an annual independent film festival that has been financially cost-neutral or profitable. This festival has connected with a broad audience, primarily 18-35-year-olds, with strong engagement from gender- and culturally diverse communities. At our Brunswick West headquarters, which features a 50-seat screening space, Static Vision also hosts regular film screenings, including one-day, four-film programs curated around specific topics and themes. These screenings aim to recontextualize a wide range of films in fresh and engaging ways for curious audiences. Additionally, Static Vision has toured multiple underground filmmakers, including Vera Drew (The People's Joker), Nick Pinkerton (The Sweet East), Daisuke Miyazaki (Videophobia), and Eugene Kotlyarenko (Spree), screening their films across Australia. These tours have been financially successful, with no external funding, sponsorships, or support. In 2025, Static Vision will launch a new, mid-year underground film festival in Melbourne, along with another edition of our annual themed festival.
