Women in STEM refers to the participation and representation of women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Despite the progress in society and the STEM fields in recent years, women still face challenges in these historically male-dominated fields. For example, unequal pay, a persistent gender bias, lack of equal opportunities, and representation for younger women to look up to. Supporting women in STEM is important for promoting diversity and working to improve the workplace culture in STEM. By creating an organization where women can engage with other women in STEM, we hope to create an environment wherein women feel supported and empowered. We hope to start workshops, and monthly meetings, spotlight our members, and even go as far as to advocate for policy changes that address systemic barriers faced by women in STEM.
We hope to inspire more women to join STEM by creating an environment where we can support each other. STEMinsts also share the details for events (e.g. competitions) taking place around the world so that we can encourage more women to take part.
Anyone can join STEMinsts: any age, qualifications, country, and experience. We hope to have members as young as teenagers and as old as retirees. Everyone is welcome!
