STEWARDS is a non-profit organisation with the mission to inform, educate and assist organisations in adopting the innovative steward-ownership structure.
Steward ownership (aka Responsible Ownership) is an alternative-to-conventional company ownership model, enabling any type of organisation to become self-owned and ensure that (a) the “steering wheel” - the voting rights are always held by people who work in the company rather than absentee owners and (b) that profits are treated as a means to an end rather than an end itself.
Our approach is to create bottom-up change by challenging one of the fundamental paradigms of capitalism and the economic system: The conception of company ownership. We understand company ownership as trusteeship and responsibility for a purpose, not as the right to extract limitless profits on a trajectory of endless growth which is depleting the planet of its resources and creating enormous economic disparities.
