StingBox HoneyPot is an affordable network honeypot for the home and small to medium size business market. StingBox was co-founded in late 2019 by Michael Aiello and Paul Williams in response to more complex network intrusion detection systems with price tags and configuration requirements that limited their practical use to the Fortune 5000. StingBox functions as a decoy computer that appears to a hacker as an unsecured server. When probed, StingBox sends an alert. StingBox HoneyPot mimics standard server responses and records a hacker’s keystrokes which it sends as a movie file for analysis and evidence for law enforcement. StingBox also preforms several optional scanning functions, StingBox scans the network every 5 minutes, comparing each new map to the last to detect the addition of any unauthorized devices. Each endpoint can also be scanned to detect the addition of any new open SMB file shares. And StingBox service scans the WAN IP to detect and alert users to any newly opened ports. A StingBox HoneyPot costs less than $200 a year, can be installed in less than 5 minutes. Hundreds of StingBoxes can be monitored from a single dashboard. An API is available for professional users who want to connect to their existing RMM dashboards and a cloud version, StingBox Virtual, is available for self hosting or cloud deployment.
