The Department of Energy defines a Microgrid as "a group of interconnected loads and distributed energy resources with clearly defined electrical boundaries that act as a single, controllable entity with respect to the grid having the ability to connect and disconnect from the grid to operate in both grid-connected or island mode."
The original goal for the Stone Edge Farm Microgrid Project was to reduce the farm’s carbon footprint by 50%. Within the first year of construction, we surpassed this goal. Currently, our goal is to discover how far below zero carbon emissions we can actually achieve.
