According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 150 children is born with cytomegalovirus (CMV), the most common viral cause of birth defects and developmental disabilities in the United States.
Stop CMV is the world's largest CMV advocacy organization, with a mission dedicated to preventing and eliminating congenital CMV and improving the lives of all people affected by congenital CMV. Since 2009, Stop CMV has been fostering congenital CMV awareness via internet and public awareness campaigns. The CMV Action Network is comprised of families, friends and medical professionals personally affected by CMV and committed to public education efforts to prevent future cases of the virus.
Stop CMV has flourished with very low overhead thanks to the creativity and agility of the organization and the hard work and commitment of volunteers. All staff, advisors, and board members are volunteers and donate their time and expertise to Stop CMV.
