About Storey County, NV
Welcome to Storey County, Nevada. Legends of the Old West don’t get any richer than they are here. Storey County earned its place on the map in 1859 when miners discovered the largest deposit ever found of gold and silver in Virginia City, which pumped nearly half a billion dollars into the economy of the United States. This discovery ultimately heralded Storey County’s Virginia City/Gold Hill as “The Richest Place on Earth.” Long after the gold and silver rush became a memory, Storey County was left with a thriving tourism market that continues to attract over 1.6 million visitors annually. Complimenting the rich history and established tourism draw, Storey County’s growing industrial sector plays an equally important role in its vitality and future economic outlook. Although Storey County is the smallest in Nevada by land area, it has a long history of outsized influence. Storey County was the site of the historic 1859 Comstock Lode, the largest silver discovery in the world at the time, which helped finance the Union during the Civil War and spurred the growth of Nevada and the broader American West. Today, the county is home to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRI-Center), one of the largest industrial parks in the world, spanning over 100,000 acres. Strategically located along Interstate 80 and near major rail lines, the TRI-Center has become a hub for advanced manufacturing, logistics, and clean technology. It houses global leaders such as Tesla’s Gigafactory, Panasonic, Redwood Materials, Walmart, PetSmart, and James Hardie, and continues to attract innovation-driven businesses. Storey County’s rich, living legacy unites with high-tech modernization that’s enjoyed by residents, businesses and visitors alike. This county offers a variety of small-town communities that are merely minutes away from large metropolitan areas—the best of both worlds.
