Stqeeye' Learning Society

Stqeeye’ is an Indigenous led non-profit organization based on Salt Spring Island, BC in the traditional territory of the Quw’utsun Peoples. We are committed to preserving the land and water at the Xwaaqw’um (Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park) by strengthening our Quw’utsun relationships. This is accomplished by Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Youth working in collaboration with all our staff and partners to develop programs for future generations. We wish for our Youth and Elders to be proud, to value one another for who they are, and to serve as educators, land stewards and advocates for Xwaaqw’um. Stqeeye' (pronounced STA-KAY-AH) was created by family descendants, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Youth, and other like-minded individuals for the common purpose of restoring the land and cultural sharing. The priority of the organization is environmental stewardship to preserve land and take care of the water in our ancestral territory. Stqeeye' supports Indigenous self-determination, relationship building, and reconciliation through traditional ecological restoration and land-based education programs, including: -Indigenous Land-Based education for local school districts and educators; curriculum development, mentorship of youth into Indigenous Land Stewards -Indigenous Youth summer camps -Indigenous p'hwulhp (Garry Oak) food garden; building food sovereignty and security -Wetland, stream and forest restoration; storing carbon, restoring hydrology and conditions for salmon, cedar and beaver curriculum development, mentorship of youth into Indigenous Land Stewards
