Streets Alive Yarra is a non-profit community group of Yarra residents and ratepayers who advocate for:
- shopping streets that build wealth for traders by attracting regular patronage from local residents;
- streets that offer safe routes to school, sports facilities, shops and friends’ houses; and
- evidence based and economically rational allocation of street space and investment.
Wider footpaths, separated bicycle lanes and protected tram and bus stops are better for children; and also better for business because they bring more people to our shopping streets than existing designs can. Parking can be increased by allocating the first 5-10 spots on each side street for shoppers and deliveries.
Safe streets are also better for cars because if more people choose to walk, ride or use public transport then there will be more space on the vehicle lanes for those who prefer to drive.
