"Strengthening Democracy" is a pioneering initiative dedicated to fortifying and enhancing Canada's democratic institutions. Based in British Columbia, our mission is to engage with a diverse array of stakeholders, including non-partisan parliamentary organizations, proactive students, local government leaders, academics, and civil society advocates across the country. We are committed to promoting a resilient and robust democracy that empowers citizens and safeguards our democratic norms. Our project is championed by esteemed leaders, including former MLA Mike Harcourt, the 30th Premier of British Columbia, and Graham Bruce, a former MLA and Cabinet minister. Their vision and dedication drive our mission forward. Our Mission: We recognize the challenges facing democracy in the 21st century, both from internal factors such as voter apathy and polarization, as well as external influences from authoritarian regimes. Our goal is to spark a nationwide conversation about the strengths and weaknesses of Canada's democracy, fostering public discourse and raising awareness about the threats we face. Our Steering Committee comprises thought leaders from diverse backgrounds, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing democratic vulnerabilities. Youth Empowerment: We actively engage young Canadians in shaping the future of democracy. Through partnerships with youth organizations, workshops, and youth-focused initiatives, we aim to empower the next generation of leaders.
