The Strong Cares Guild partners with Seattle Children's Hospital and Strong Against Cancer to relieve the financial burdens of traveling families enrolling in Seattle-based Strong Against Cancer clinical trials, and by helping to fund research aimed at improving survival rates and quality of life for kids suffering from aggressive pediatric cancer.
To put this in perspective, for Seattle Children's/Strong Against Cancer to get a new treatment approved for late-stage kiddos battling cancer, they need a certain number of participants - there aren't enough Seattle-based families to fill the trials and as such, they need to bring in families from all over the world just to get the trial approved. The baseline cost for a travelling familily exploring what is often the final attempt at saving their child's life, is $400K. And that is the *minimum*!!
The Strong Cares Guild was founded by Jessica Beckstrand who following the diagnosis of 4 neuroblastoma for her 18-month old baby girl now has a happy, healthy, beautiful 5-year old daughter that is with us today because of these very programs.
Jessica has dedicated her life to giving back to the Seattle Childrens' programs that saved her daughter's life and we hope to have your ongoing support. Every Board Member has a personal story or connection to drive us to engage our communities and rally around this cause and we feel this is a truly unique way to have a direct, tangible impact on making this nightmare something we look back on as a "sign of the times".
