Strut and Tie utilizes post-tensioning, a powerful technique for creating prestressed structural elements. Prestressing is the application of internal forces (stresses) during construction to offset the external loads a structure will experience in service. In post-tensioning, high-strength steel strands or tendons are placed within ducts in the concrete formwork. After the concrete has hardened, these strands are tensioned and anchored, creating internal compression that significantly increases the structure's strength and resistance to cracking. This technique is particularly advantageous for: • Longer spans: Post-tensioning allows for greater distances between supports, creating more open spaces. • Thinner slabs: Reduced concrete volume translates to lighter structures and material cost savings. • Improved crack control: The induced compression minimizes cracking, enhancing durability and reducing maintenance. • Increased load capacity: Post-tensioned structures can support heavier loads compared to conventionally reinforced concrete.
