Student Language Exchange

Student Language Exchange company information, Employees & Contact Information

In 2010, 95% of American college students enrolled in language classes were studying a European language. Universities strive to educate future leaders, but our global education is limited by academic curricula. How will that impact students as we leave to serve the world? The Student Language Exchange, a national nonprofit organization, is a pioneer in diversifying language learning and global engagement in American universities. Our programs mobilize international students to run semester-long, not-for-credit courses introducing these students’ peer groups to their languages and cultures. Through peer-to-peer relationships, we aim to fill gaps in curricula and expand global awareness, heighten cultural sensitivity, and graduate students that are prepared and eager to engage with often overlooked cultures, whether it be through further academic study, related professional opportunities, or social justice work in these regions. Launched in Spring 2012 at Brown University, the Student Language Exchange aims to address the systematic exclusion of world cultures on American university campuses. To date, we have offered 30+ languages at six American universities.
