Studentenscouting Nederland (SSN) is ontstaan uit de behoefte om meer samen te doen met de verschillende studentenstammen en om het concept Studentenscouting bekender te maken. Na verloop van tijd kwam er een centraal orgaan om dat in goede banen te leiden: de landelijke vertegenwoordiging (LV). Aan de eerste benaming van de LV, de Promocommissie, kun je nog goed zien wat er in die tijd centraal stond. Dit geldt nu nog steeds, maar tegenwoordig zijn andere dingen zoals landelijke evenementen, communicatie tussen stammen en communicatie met andere (internationale) organisaties ook belangrijk.
