Studio Jonathan Apelbaum

Born in October 2022 in Berlin Mitte, Studio Apelbaum is an artistic and research platform that brings together both the local and international contemporary art scene. Meant as a creative space to gather and showcase works from different queer collectives, the studio works as a bridge between various art forms, including fine arts, performance, theatre, film, and sound installations. Along with a group of painters, choreographers, theatre directors, engineers, and audio artists, we host weekly meetings and exhibitions in search of novel ways to further interact with the “AI Cognitive Paintings” created by Jonathan Apelbaum. As a space that assembles artists from different backgrounds and collectives, we heavily rely upon collaboration and social interaction to develop new projects around the topics of sexuality, gender, and community. With a painting room, a performance stage, and a workshop equipped with state-of-the-art technology, we strive to create a safe and creative environment for artists and researchers to work on different mediums. There are two main goals: creating a home for our chosen family and attracting an audience that is looking for alternative venues and ways of expression. UPCOMING PROJECTS: Unlayered @ St. Thomas Church - Berlin (June 2023) UNLAYERED is born from the idea of decontextualization. It is the art of blending unexpected sceneries together to create a new one. Going beyond established layers of art, performance, and music. Apelbaum 04: Queer Masculinities (September 2023) Apelbaum04 is the fourth edition studying the concept of queer masculinities and intimacy. It introduces often complex and sometimes contradictory representations of queer masculinities, reflections, social connections, boundaries, and how they have developed and will evolve over time in an uncertain future.
