‘Wic’ is the Old English word for ‘settlement, village or dwelling’ and is still used today in many of the names of our towns and cities. The name reflects our practice’s preoccupation with the role that architecture plays in creating place, alongside our fundamental belief that to understand the present you should be responsive to the past.

Our Approach
Our approach is research based and with a strong emphasis on understanding local history, architectural vernacular, orientation, materiality, geology, ecology and arboriculture. Our research provides the groundwork to develop an initial response and becomes the backbone to the designs moving forward. The studio’s environmental approach is engrained throughout the design process, from the site strategy, to advising on relevant technologies, to assessing the building performance, ensuring all our projects meet the highest standards in sustainability.
