Every disabled person has the right to be evacuated regardless of their age, social origin, gender, race, disability or chronic illness, and their access needs.
Disabled, neurodivergent and chronically ill and injured people are the one most affected group by the war in Ukraine.
Evacuation is inaccessible for many of them.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of the whole of Ukraine Sunflower Care e.V. supports disabled, neurodivergent and war-injured children and adults and their caregivers from and in Ukraine.
What we do:
-Look for less barrier options of medical and casualty evacuation, such as intensive care and critical care transport, ambulances, or accessible vehicles.
-Finding temporary barrier-free housing for disabled people, for people who need chemotherapy, urgent operations or have chronic illnesses or immune deficiency.
-Support with transport costs: petrol, train tickets, taxis for disabled, chronically ill persons for whom public transport is inaccessible.
-Find out the individual needs that might apply to accommodation and medical treatment.
-Help know the way around the German social and healthcare system and cope with the official paperwork and bureaucracy (social security services, local health authority, etc.)
-Accompaniment to offices, authorities and medical appointments if translation is needed.
-Assist in finding and getting assistive devices, e.g. wheelchairs, rollator walkers, laptops, handys that might be needed upon arrival.
-Translation online and offline
-Support with document preparation, translation of medical findings and diagnoses from Ukrainian into German.
-Provide food, clothes, personal care items in Germany, when a person urgently needs any.
-Provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
-Protection of human rights in refugee camps and other institutions, legal advices.
-Anti-ableism workshops.
