About SunGel: Advanced Thin Film Solar Technology
The SunGel project is a collaborative research initiative between Kingston University, UK, and Istanbul Technical University, Turkey. Starting on August 2024, this 24-month project aims to develop and characterize novel solar photovoltaic (PV) cells with advanced materials and structures. These innovative solar cells will be integrated into modular water purification systems to provide sustainable and affordable clean water solutions, particularly in rural areas of Turkey. The SunGel project aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), and Climate Action (SDG 13). By providing innovative solar energy solutions for water purification, the project aims to reduce plastic waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and promote sustainable development in Turkey.
