Supaéro Drone Section

Following the motto of ISAE-SUPAERO (the French engineering school specializing in aerospace), Supaéro Drone Section (SDS) has started its journey this year to strive for excellence with full-pledged passion with students from all levels of the institute. Around 30 students have joined the organization, with an aspiration to excel in designing, analysis and optimization, fabrication and manufacturing, and testing of drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). With 4 projects having separate objectives, SDS has attracted many students from bachelor's, master's, and double-diploma degree programs. Not just domestic students, but also foreign students from countries like, Belgium, India, Portugal, Taiwan, Bangladesh, South Korea, Poland, and China are part of the organization, diversifying the talents and ideas, with an ultimate goal to help achieve carbon neutrality and net-zero carbon emission in aviation. Current projects by SDS: 1) Drone Solaire (Solar Powered Drone); 2) Projet Kestrel (Electric and Hydrogen powered UAV); 3) Design, Build, Fly (Participate in DBF Aeromodelling competition); and 4) Course de Drone Sur le Campus (Organize a Drone racing competition in SUPAERO campus). With a budget of over 20,000 Euro, funded by the students association ‘Association des Élèves (AE)’ of ISAE-SUPAERO, the projects will help students to foster knowledge and skills needed to achieve ‘net-zero carbon emission’ status in aviation and aeronautics in the near future.
