There is a growing need to address the built environment in a more sustainable way, not only in the design of new buildings, but also in the management of existing buildings. The aim of our research is to contribute to the scientific basis of sustainable architecture and to support the decision-making process towards more sustainable designs, especially with regard to the use of natural resources. Contributing to a good life for all within planetary boundaries is our mission, and we put this into research practice through projects and PhDs on sustainable material use, circular economy, doughnut economy and (energy) sufficiency. Our activities take place within the Faculty of Architecture and Arts at the University of Hasselt and are also strongly embedded in our postgraduate programme Building Beyond Borders (buildingbeyondborders.be).
