Surface Paints has its genesis in the predecessor organization established by its founder in the year 1956. It is part of the "VKS Group" which operates five manufacturing plants at Lucknow, India.
The year 1978 marked the entry of Mr. V.K. Singhal, our current chairman, into the business. He started by adding Architectural Paints to the product portfolio. In 2005, seeing the rising demand of Industrial paints & powder coatings, he focused his attention towards the industrial sector. Today, VKS Group stands as the holding company for its sub brands which have been warmly accepted by the commercial markets within the Indian Subcontinent and overseas markets. Spread over an area of 15 acres with a combined turnover of USD 20 million, the Group employs 500+ people in high-tech manufacturing facilities with a capacity to produce 6000 KL of paint and 3000 MT of powder coatings annually.
To further expand the business horizon,the third generation of entrepreneurs from the family, Mr. Suyash Singhal, joined the business in Directorial capacity. Since the existing operations were aptly being taken care of by the Group Chairman and his elder brother, he embarked on a quest to further broaden the product portfolio. Keeping in mind the success achieved in the Defence segment in the final decade of the last century, he embarked on a journey to understand the reasons for that business segment to have ceased to be profitable. After years of research and much deliberation, he finally decided to approach the Defence segment with a renewed focus on MIL Grade paints and coatings for specialized applications which true to the values of the Group posed a challenge and offered "Value Innovating" opportunities to a selective and very niche market segment.
Having decided to focus on the segment, the challenge next was to understand the nuances and compliance requirements of the vertical and enact a Roadmap and lay milestones for a Go-To-Market strategy and a functional execution plan.
