About Sustainable & Circular Design CCW

Sustainable & Circular Design CCW, at University of the Arts London, is a 30-year open-archive of academic design research and knowledge exchange. Housed online & at Chelsea College of Arts, this ground-breaking collection of works has been collated into directional prompts for future action, by Professor Rebecca Earley and colleagues. CCD (2017-2022) followed on from many years of pioneering research leadership at Textile Futures Research Centre (TFRC, 2010-2017) and Textiles Environment Design (TED, 1996-2017). Today the archive at CCW is home to the materials, prototypes, tools & insights created for learning purposes, during this formative and intense period. The research has been focused on using practice research approaches to steer and support sustainable & circular economies and communities around the globe. By bringing together academic and industry research the groups explored design for sustainable and circular contexts with approaches ranging from emerging technology, systems design, materials, tools, user behaviour and social innovation. The group is comprised of CCW/UAL research staff, PhD students, national and international academic researchers, cultural institutions, industry and commerce to create new connections to support people and planet. We currently provide expertise, consultancy and knowledge exchange services to clients: this includes sustainable and circular design education and training; new materials and product development; thought leadership and direction; report writing and analysis; future scoping and scenario modelling; curation & mapping.
