SusPharma

SUSPHARMA is a Horizon Europe-funded project that embraces safe and green-by-design principles integrating sustainability, safety, and circular economy strategies directly into the early stages of pharmaceutical product and process design. The project addresses Europe’s urgent need for more sustainable industrial development by creating greener, scalable routes to synthesize pharmaceutical molecules, including active ingredients for therapeutics and diagnostics. SUSPHARMA leverages an interdisciplinary approach, combining: - Recent advances in biomass conversion for drug synthesis - Novel heterogeneous catalysis for efficient bond formation - State-of-the-art flow chemistry technologies for synthesis and purification - Automation and machine learning for predictive modeling and robotic process control By rethinking pharmaceutical manufacturing, SUSPHARMA aims to reduce chemical waste, minimize emissions, and significantly lower the environmental impact of drug production, helping to shape a cleaner, safer, and more resilient pharmaceutical industry in Europe.
