The Sustainability Forum (SF) was founded in 2019 to promote social and ecological well-being in the Garden Route region (Western Cape). The SF recognises the critical need to connect communities around researched, collaborative actions that promote social cohesion and environmental justice.
Our Mission is to champion long-term social and ecological well-being in the Garden Route by promoting sustainability science-based actions in collaboration with government and communities.
Our Vision
• Encouraging proactive planning for urban densification and transformation, social integration, and sustainable land management.
• Increasing awareness of and action for climate change risks relating to wildfires, water shortages, extreme heat, and food security.
• Generating and circulating information about a regenerative and circular economies that produces goods and services sustainably, within natural limitations that support earth systems, without resulting in excessive waste.
• Advocating for transparent and accountable governance, so that sound policy and planning moves from theory or promise, to sustainable practice and implementation.
• Identifying and implementing innovative projects at a local level that can be monitored and tracked to further local and regional sustainable development goals.
