SVO

A group of enthusiastic students is the driving force behind Studenten voor Ontwikkeling (SVO), an association affiliated with the Instudo Foundation. Developing countries pose a challenge for them to roll up their sleeves. They contribute to building schools, dams, clinics, or improving water supply, but motivating and supporting the people is equally important. Solidarity is the volunteers' driving force to contribute to better living conditions for the local population. Preparations start a few months before departure, in their home country, including a language course, several theme or discussion evenings, and the setup and execution of a fundraising campaign. To arrive prepared, each participant in the Netherlands seeks financial resources for the project. These can range from sponsorship by companies to contributions from schools and donations from family and friends. The students go through the entire process of organization, guidance, and implementation, making the project their own and fostering an atmosphere of friendship. The attitude of solidarity is also evident in the Netherlands, where SVO tries to support the least fortunate and elderly individuals living alone. In addition to its commitment to improving living conditions in developing countries, SVO is deeply committed to sustainability, participation, social engagement, and personal growth. This includes initiatives such as promoting environmentally friendly practices in their projects, encouraging active participation from local communities, fostering social responsibility among members, and providing opportunities for personal development and learning throughout their involvement in the organization. These values not only guide their work abroad but also shape their efforts to make a positive impact within their own communities in the Netherlands.
