Social Venture Partners (SVP) was founded in 1997 in Seattle, is the world’s largest network of engaged philanthropists. It consists of over 3,400 donors spread across 40 cities in 7 countries, namely USA, Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, and Korea. It has invested more than $80 million in 900 investees.
SVP amplifies the impact of those who want to do good by connecting them with like-minded people. It aims to bring together donors with non-profits so greater impact can be made together.
It strengthens non-profits by providing them multi-year funding or capacity-building grants as per need accessed; and collaborates with others in the social ecosystem to amplify this impact.
SVP India was founded in India in 2012 by Ravi Venkatesan, venture partner with Unitus Seed Fund and former chairman of Cummins India and then Microsoft India, to introduce a new form of philanthropy ¬—‘Venture Philanthropy’— to India.
SVP India aims to bring like-minded people together to invest both time and expertise (as well as money) through multi-year partnerships as well as those who wish to go beyond traditional ‘chequebook’ philanthropy.
SVP India has a diverse peer network of more than 600 individuals (partners) spread across eight major cities (Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmadabad, and Chennai) whose time, expertise, and connections are leveraged to create a multiplier effect for our NGO investees.
