SWAP was founded in 2015 by 3 entrepreneurs.
MSc. Shay Cohen, Dr. Or Yogev ,and Joshua Mesinger (private investor) .The company was granted by the IIT (Israel Innovation Authority) on 0.8M$ for developing a pilot plant.
One of the great challenges for power distributors is to match power demand and power generation, especially when produced by renewable source of energy such as wind and solar.
SWAP developed a system that capable to meet power demand especially during peaked hours. The system is not only stores energy but rather enable to dispatch it provided high economical gain by dispatching power between peaks to off peaks times.
SWAP product is using air pressure to store and generate power.
The system consists of several water and air tanks connected through feed pipes to hydro power turbine.
The liquid pistons are displacing water against the force produced by the pressurized air tank or by a water pump through the cylinders, thus provides means for energy storage.
The system has vast advantages: Low cost at $/KWh, efficient space usage – low ground signature, modular system low to high power, high round trip efficiency, state of the art control system and an unlimited number of cycles at high rates.
