MISSION S - Strengthen the bonds that build a well-fortified community of strong legal and business minded Brothers dedicated to supporting the personal and professional development of one another. E - Educate Brothers on the accomplishments and triumphs of Black attorneys practicing in the greater Houston legal community and provide Brothers with tools to navigate the barriers that may manifest themselves throughout their legal careers. G - Grow our influence by giving back to the greater Houston community and ensuring that we contribute to the development of future generations of Brothers entering the legal field. VISION “Sweat equity” is the value added to an entity as a result of one’s non-monetary investment. The hard work of the builders is acknowledged with an ownership stake in something that will ultimately benefit the collective and those coming after them. In Sweatt v. Painter, 339 U.S. 629 (1950), Herman M. Sweatt, a Black man who was denied admission to the University of Texas School of Law on account of his race, worked hard to challenge the “separate but equal” doctrine of racial segregation in Texas. The work in Sweatt set the stage for later challenges to de jure segregation and contributed to its eventual downfall. We believe in investing in the future of our community and assisting in the development of the community of Brothers that we are building. Our vision is to have a strong community of Brothers across the greater Houston area who can be a source of support for one another, who can seamlessly conduct business with one another, who can fellowship with one another in an environment that reinforces our culture and values, and who can be a valuable resource to those in our community.
